OUR STORY · NINGBO, 2015

A Promise Born from a Rescue

On a summer evening in 2015, my wife and I came across three abandoned newborn puppies near our neighborhood entrance. She was eight months pregnant. I was still afraid of dogs after an earlier bite. Neither of us knew how to care for puppies so young, but we wanted to help.

With a neighbor, a kind security guard and a local pet-care shop, we helped them reach a place where someone would care for them. That shared act of kindness stayed with me. Today, it shapes the care we want BEEUGOOD to bring to pets and their families.

Three puppies in a cardboard box · June 27, 2015.
Three small lives. A promise that stayed.

On the evening of June 26, 2015, my wife and I went for our usual walk after dinner in Ningbo, China. She was eight months pregnant, and we were preparing to welcome our first child. Near the entrance to our neighborhood, we came across three abandoned newborn puppies. They were so young that their umbilical cords were still attached.

I had been bitten by a stray dog before and was still uneasy around dogs. My wife loved animals, but neither of us had experience caring for newborn puppies. With a baby on the way, we were not in a position to raise them ourselves. We hoped someone nearby would be able to take them in.

When we returned from our walk, a neighbor had moved the puppies from the grass to a more visible spot by the entrance. Their small cries sounded like a baby’s. We asked Ms. Ren, the security guard on duty, whether they could stay in the gatehouse while we looked for help. She agreed and cared for them through the night.

That evening, I made three trips to the gatehouse with dishes and feeding supplies. At first, I reached for what we had at home. We soon realised how little we knew about the needs of puppies this young. We searched for information, listened to neighbors with experience and kept trying to find someone better equipped to care for them.

Later, after my wife had gone home to rest, I went back to check on the puppies. Ms. Ren was worried: her shift would end in the morning, and they could not stay in the gatehouse indefinitely. I told her I would take responsibility for finding them somewhere to go. I did not yet know how, but I knew I needed to follow through.

Back home, I searched and contacted local pet-care businesses and people who might be able to help. Several could not take them in. Eventually, a local pet-care shop agreed to see the puppies the next day. It was a possibility, and I held on to it. I still slept uneasily, wondering what I would do if it did not work out.

The next morning, I found the puppies in a small room where they had been moved for the change of shift. The room was quiet until they heard me. Then all three began to cry and struggle toward my voice, their tiny legs barely carrying them. I still remember that moment. I had come back to check on them, and suddenly I felt how much they needed someone to return.

I placed them in a cardboard box and drove to the shop. After hearing what had happened and seeing the puppies, the owner agreed to take all three. I felt an enormous sense of relief. Later, I returned with more supplies and checked that they were being looked after.

This was a shared act of kindness: a neighbor who brought them out of the grass, Ms. Ren who sheltered them overnight, a shop owner who welcomed them, and my wife, who helped and kept a record of it all. On June 27, she posted photographs and thanked everyone involved. Those photographs and her words have kept the memory with us.

What stayed with me was the responsibility that came with deciding to help. We had much to learn, and asking for help was part of caring for them. Every pet deserves someone willing to notice its needs and act on them, with the tenderness we would want for our own family.

Years later, that experience became part of the purpose behind BEEUGOOD. It guides our commitment to thoughtful products, clear information and care that fits into everyday life. The promise lives in the choices we make: taking care over what we create, explaining how to use it, and continuing to learn from the people who care for pets every day.

For me, it began with three puppies. Today, that care extends to the dogs and cats who share our homes, and to the people who love them. Every one deserves gentle, sincere care.
